Friday 10th March 2017

We have introduced a writing competition this week into our class routine. The children are encouraged to post work they are proud of into the 'Wonderful Writing Post Box' and on Friday's children will be selected to win prizes and share their writing with the class.

This week's Winners are...

First Place - Theo

Second Place - Layla

Third Place - Erin

Well done to all the children who entered our first independent writing competition! We are so proud of you all.

Monday 23 January

Today we have been to the book fair in the school hall. There were so many books to choose from and we found the experience very exciting! We choose a book each to have a look at and the children in Class 4 came to share it with us and helped us to read some of the challenging words! The book fair will be in school on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, I am sure the children would love to show you around!

Friday 20 January

We have begun writing our Gingerbread Man stories after working together to create story maps! This is the children’s first piece of long writing and I am really proud of how they have been applying their phonics, using finger spaces and even some full stops!

Our topic this term is 'Once upon a time...', to begin our literacy unit we have been reading and getting to know the traditional tale, The Gingerbread Man. This week we have read the story, decided on some actions for story telling, discussed the key events at the beginning, in the middle and the end of the story and we have acted out the story in small groups!

We especially like joining in with the repeated refrain "Run, run, as fast as you can, you can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man!"

We hope you like our videos!

A Letter to Santa

We have had a very busy week in Class 1! On Monday we read the book The Jolly Christmas Postman, we loved the letters that we could pull out and read! Throughout the book we were able to recognise lots of the familiar story characters and we discussed who else we could write letters to, the children had some brilliant ideas suggesting a friend, The Snowman, a bus driver, Sneaky, Santa’s elves and of course, Santa himself. The children loved this idea and so we decided this would be our focus for the week!

We looked carefully at how letters are written and discussed their features together. As a class we did a ‘shared write’ of some letters, thinking carefully about applying our knowledge of letters and sounds, using finger spaces and we even began to talk about the use of full stops!

Towards the end of the week we were ready to write! The children were so excited to send a letter to Santa and they really gave it their all, applying their phonics skills and thinking carefully about their letter formation. By Thursday we were ready to post our letters, we planned a walk to the Post Office in Holme Hall and each of the children posted their letter addressed to Santa (Santa, Santa's Grotto, Reindeerland, XM4 5HQ) into the post box, it was safe to say they were excited! We hope to receive a reply from him before the end of term!
